A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah

I read this book a few months ago as a special assignment from one of my teachers. I actually got to attend a presentation with Mr. Beah at a high school on Long Island (unfortunately my teacher was stupid and scheduled the buses to come 3 hours early and we didn't even get to stay half way through it >.>)

I recommend this book for anyone. It's an amazing memoir told with such emotion and detail about the civil war in Sierra Leone of the 1990's. It's the story of a younger Ishmael who loses everything except his love for hip-hop and is forced to fight as a child soldier.

Life is like a bag of potatoes, it starts out rough, but can turn into something beautiful (and yummy).
